1917: One of the coldest springs on record shows no signs of warming up. Frost plays havoc with crops, and snowfalls are heavy and frequent.
1945: High pressure brings a prolonged spell of dry and warm weather to Ireland during which the temperature reaches 22°C in Dublin.
1998: A bronze bust of world-renowned Irish aviator, Colonel James Fitzmaurice who made the first east-west transatlantic crossing in 1928, is unveiled in his home town of Portlaoise, County Laois.
2016: Mallow (Hazelwood) in County Cork records its wettest April day since 1941 with 31.6 mm.
2021: Dublin Airport records the lowest air temperature of the month (-4.7°C).
2023: Storm Noa is named by the UK Met Office, becoming the second named storm of the 2022/2023 storm season.
