Scattered heavy showers of rain and hail fell across much of the north and west of Ireland on Friday.

The showery conditions followed the passage of a cold front across Ireland that brought heavy rain to parts of the island on Thursday.

Satellite imagery from EUMETSAT and NASA shows bands of showers crossing the country during Friday afternoon.

Further showers can be expected during Saturday, but drier conditions will spread to all areas on Saturday night through Sunday.

Ireland is set to enjoy an extended period of dry weather due to high pressure becoming established nearby.

Rainfall amounts will be well below average for the time of year, while temperatures will be above the seasonal average.

The below average rainfall totals across Ireland this March are in stark contrast to recent years.

March 2023 was the wettest on record, while March 2024 was also in the top ten wettest months since records began.
