UK Records Sunniest Spring on Record

The UK has provisionally experienced its sunniest spring on record, according to Met Office data.
Between 1 March and 27 May, the country recorded 630 hours of sunshine—surpassing the previous record set in 2020 by four hours. This dataset dates back to 1910.
Last week, the Met Office confirmed that both Scotland and Northern Ireland had already seen their sunniest springs on record, also eclipsing figures from 2020.
Met Office scientist Emily Carlisle said:
“The UK has now, provisionally, recorded its sunniest spring on record, with a few days of the season still to go. We all remember the exceptionally sunny spring of 2020, but that title has now been claimed by spring 2025. Notably, seven of the ten sunniest springs on record for the UK since 1910 have occurred since the year 2000.”
While the season has been predominantly sunny and dry, unsettled weather is forecast for the final days of May, making it too early to confirm any additional records. The Met Office will release full statistics for May and for Spring 2025 on Monday, 2 June.
