1958: A new radar is installed at Dublin Airport allowing air traffic controllers to watch the movement of aircraft within a 40-mile radius.
1976: Thousands head for the coast as Ireland enjoys Bank Holiday Monday sunshine and temperatures in the high teens.
1988: A new remote control VHF station begins transmitting from Glencolmbcille, County Donegal, and will provide regular weather forecasts for fishermen. The Department of Marine announces that a further four stations will be developed over the coming year.
1990: A deep area of low-pressure system tracking to the north of Ireland produces a wind gust of 128 km/h at Malin Head, Donegal.
2011: The temperature in Shannon, County Clare, reaches 20°C.
2016: Dungarvan (Carriglea), County Waterford, reported its sunniest April day since the station opened in 1983 with 13.5 hours.
