UK Met Office Forecasts Settled Weather as August Begins

Cork City

The UK Met Office’s latest long-range forecast signals a shift toward more settled weather as high pressure is expected to build across the country in early August, bringing increased chances of prolonged dry and sunny conditions.

In the immediate term, a westerly to northwesterly flow will continue to shape the weather, bringing a mix of rain, showers, and some drier interludes. The north and west are likely to see the wettest and windiest conditions, with occasional prolonged rainfall. Meanwhile, southern parts of the UK stand the best chance of enjoying drier and brighter spells.

As early August unfolds, forecasters expect high pressure to extend northeastwards, leading to more widespread settled conditions across much of the country. The north may remain breezy, but many areas are likely to see more frequent sunny spells and reduced rainfall. Temperatures during this period are forecast to stay close to average, though some warmer days are likely.

Looking further ahead, from Sunday 10 August to Sunday 24 August, the outlook remains cautiously optimistic. While westerly winds may still bring changeable weather at times, the Met Office notes a growing likelihood of more persistent settled spells, particularly in the south and potentially extending nationwide. Temperatures are expected to be near or above average, with a chance of very warm or even hot conditions, especially across southern and eastern regions.

This forecast points to a notable improvement in summer weather, especially after the unsettled conditions that have dominated in recent weeks.
