Gloom Over Portrush as Sunshine Stays Away

There was little in the way of sunshine across the country today, with grey skies and cool, breezy conditions prevailing in many areas.
Nowhere was the overcast weather more evident than at Royal Portrush Golf Club, where players at The Open faced a distinctly autumnal atmosphere for much of the day.
A few fleeting sunny spells were reported in parts of the southeast and east early this afternoon, including in Wicklow Town and south Wexford, but these were short-lived and quickly replaced by cloud cover.

The dreary conditions are part of a broader unsettled spell that looks set to continue over the coming days. Forecasts point to a mix of showers, longer spells of rain, and the occasional bright interval as low pressure continues to dominate.
While the west and southwest will bear the brunt of the rain initially, the wetter weather is expected to gradually spread north and east into the weekend. Despite the damp conditions, temperatures will remain relatively mild — generally in the high teens to low twenties — though the lack of sunshine may make it feel cooler at times.
Winds will be mostly light to moderate, occasionally fresh in exposed areas, and variable in direction as weather systems move through.
Looking ahead, there is little sign of any prolonged settled or summery weather in the short term, with further bouts of rain and drizzle likely into early next week.
