Heavy Rainfall Dominates as Unsettled Weather Persists

Rainfall levels across Ireland soared well above seasonal averages over the past week, with the midlands experiencing the most significant deluge, according to the latest figures from Met Éireann.
Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, recorded the highest rainfall with 58.2mm—360% of the average for this time of year. In contrast, Roches Point, Co. Cork, saw the least rainfall at 15.6mm, though this still represented 108% of the seasonal norm.
Southern counties fared slightly better, with totals closer to average, but no region remained untouched by the persistent wet conditions. Looking ahead, Met Éireann forecasts continued unsettled weather, with further spells of rain and showers sweeping in from the Atlantic. Rainfall amounts are expected to be between 1.5 and 3 times the seasonal average, with the west likely to see the heaviest accumulations.
The saturated conditions are contributing to poor drying and spraying conditions nationwide, with limited opportunities for fieldwork. Soil moisture deficits are expected to decline further, with waterlogging becoming more widespread, particularly in the northwest and southwest.
While mean temperatures remain slightly above average, the dominant feature of the week remains the rain, as Ireland endures another spell of wetter-than-usual weather.
