Met Éireann is seeking to expand its team with a recruitment campaign for three key positions, namely Weather Forecaster, Flood Forecaster, and Research and Development Meteorologist.

The new hires will play a crucial role in enhancing Ireland’s forecasting capabilities and supporting the country’s response to increasingly complex weather and climate events.

The recruitment campaign, launched by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, is open until 5pm on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025.

On the Front Lines of Forecasting

Weather and Flood Forecasters will join Met Éireann’s operational teams, working rotating shifts across weekdays, weekends, and overnight to deliver round-the-clock services. These roles involve in-depth analysis of real-time atmospheric data, the use of advanced forecast models, and the preparation and communication of vital public weather and flood warnings.

Forecasters may work on general forecasting or specialise in aviation and hydrological services.

Researching Ireland’s Weather Future

The Research and Development Meteorologist position is aimed at applicants with a passion for innovation and climate science.

  • Enhancing resolution and scalability of weather models
  • Applying Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to forecast systems
  • Analysing Ireland’s historical and future climate data
  • Supporting environmental monitoring programmes and robust data infrastructure
