The past week has seen wetter than normal conditions across most of Ireland, according to Met Éireann’s latest farming commentary.

Rainfall amounts ranged from 110% to 380% of average in many areas, although the southeastern and northern coasts experienced below-average rainfall, with between 40% and 90% of normal amounts.

The wettest location recorded was Shannon Airport in Co. Clare, with 56.6mm of rain, while Malin Head in Co. Donegal saw the least rainfall, registering just 6.6mm.

Looking ahead, Met Éireann forecasts that the coming week will continue to be wetter than average for most of the country due to unsettled weather patterns. Frequent rain and showers are expected, with rainfall amounts ranging from average in the northeast to up to three times the typical levels in parts of the east and midlands.

Temperatures over the past seven days have been above average nationwide, with mean air temperatures between 16.8°C and 18.8°C—1.4 to 3.1 degrees above normal. Shannon Airport again recorded the warmest mean air temperature. Soil temperatures were also well above average, ranging from 17.2°C to 22.2°C, which is 2.2 to 6 degrees higher than normal.

For the coming week, air temperatures are expected to trend closer to average, ranging from 15°C in the west to 16°C in the east, with mean temperatures hovering between 1 degree above and 1 degree below normal. However, soil temperatures will remain notably above average.
