On Saturday, the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite captured striking cloud formations known as cloud streets. These long, parallel rows of cumulus clouds were clearly visible across the middle third of Ireland.

Cloud streets form when cooler air passes over a warmer surface, triggering rising columns of warm air called thermals. Clouds develop along the tops of these thermals, creating the distinctive parallel lines.

The satellite provided detailed close-up images of the phenomenon over Galway Bay, Westmeath, Meath, and Louth.

The coming 10 to 14 days will bring plenty of dry weather as high pressure becomes established close to or over Ireland. There will be spells of warm sunshine, but also a risk of thunderstorms at times in the coming days.
