Conditions for Drying Improve as Week Progresses

Sheep-field-1200x675 Conditions for Drying Improve as Week Progresses

After a damp start to the week, conditions for drying and spraying will gradually improve across most of the country, according to Met Éireann’s latest farming commentary.

Drying conditions will be poor on Monday morning but are expected to pick up in the afternoon as rain clears. Moderate to good drying can be expected between showers on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

There will also be some windows for spraying midweek, particularly on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, moderate to fresh winds in the west and north may limit opportunities in those regions. Further spraying may be possible between showers on Thursday.

Soil conditions remain largely trafficable, with soil moisture deficits ranging from 10mm to 45mm. However, wetter ground is reported in the north and west, where soils are closer to saturation.

Over the coming week, soils in Ulster, Connacht and parts of the midlands are expected to become increasingly saturated, with poorly drained fields likely to become waterlogged. Elsewhere, soils should remain drier, with deficits generally between 5mm and 40mm.
