Craft Warnings Issued for Bank Holiday Weekend

Two Status Yellow Small Craft Warnings have been issued by Met Éireann ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend, cautioning of potentially hazardous sea conditions for mariners around the Irish coast.
The first warning, covering the stretch from Mizen Head to Slyne Head to Bloody Foreland, forecasts strengthening southwest winds reaching Force 6 or higher. This warning is in effect from midnight to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, 31 May. It was officially issued on Thursday afternoon.
A second and more extensive warning was issued today, Friday, 30 May, for all coastal waters around Ireland. It forecasts south to southwest winds, which will veer west to northwesterly by Saturday night, reaching Force 6 or higher at times. This warning is valid from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday until 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, 1 June.
The warnings coincide with the busy Bank Holiday weekend, a time when many small craft and leisure vessels are expected to take to the water. Mariners are advised to exercise extreme caution and to stay updated on the latest forecasts and warnings.
Met Éireann is urging all those planning coastal or marine activities to heed the warnings and prioritise safety throughout the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Irish Coast Guard, RNLI, and Water Safety Ireland are urging the public to exercise increased caution around water this June bank holiday weekend.
The appeal comes after a 10% rise in drownings this year compared to the same period in 2024.
With large numbers expected at beaches, lakes, and rivers, authorities are reminding everyone to prioritise safety and enjoy the long weekend responsibly.
