A chronological list of weather events and extremes that took place in Ireland on this day down through history.
1636: The worst hailstorm in Ireland since record-keeping began takes place. The Annals of The Four Masters, which were completed in this year in Donegal, reports that a shower of hailstones, with stones as large as four inches in circumference, killing a hen and injuring a woman in County Offaly.
1968: Search and recovery efforts continue off the coast of County Wexford after an Aer Lingus plane, the St. Phelim, crashes into the sea near Tuskar Rock, with the loss of all 61 passengers and crew.
1976: A search operation is launched in the Tulla area of County Clare after a light plane that was flying into Shannon Airport from Newfoundland crashed in poor weather.
1986: Spring is put on hold as snow falls across Leinster and Ulster.
2013: A prolonged cold spell brings bitterly cold easterly winds and heavy snow showers to the eastern half of Ireland.
2016: Lecarrow in County Roscommon reports its wettest March day on available record since 1968 with 26.5 mm.
