Storm clouds gather over southern half of Ireland

Widespread thunderstorm activity affected the southern half of Ireland on Tuesday.
Following weeks of largely dry and warm weather, conditions have taken a turn for the worse since Monday morning with heavy, thundery showers affecting parts of Leinster and Munster.
Met Éireann issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for ten counties on Tuesday morning, that was to remain in place until 8.00pm.
Deep convection in the form of towering Cumulus and Cumulonimbus could be seen over the southern half of Ireland when the NASA Modis satellite passed over the island at midday on Tuesday.

Drier, sunnier and warmer weather will return across Ireland for Wednesday, Thursday, at the opening half of Friday before light rain pushes across the island from the west later on in the day.
A return to less settled conditions will persist for the remainder of May and into the start of June.
