Dublin sunshine hours flip after bright start to month

After a record breaking sunny first half of April, Dublin Airport was Ireland’s dullest location over the past week.
The last seven days have been duller than normal with the exception of the southwest, where sunshine amounts were about average.
It was dullest in the east and southeast with just 14.3 hours of sunshine recorded at Dublin Airport, which represents just 38% of the seasonal average.
At Valentia in County Kerry however, 40 hours of sunshine were recorded, which was 9% above average amounts for the time of year.
Rainfall varied significantly, with Roches Point, County Cork, receiving 73.9mm—535% of typical weekly totals.
The northwest was driest, with Belmullet, County Mayo, recording 19.9mm.
In its latest farming commentary, Met Éireann said, “While there will be some dry periods, spells of rain and showers will frequently spread from the Atlantic, with rainfall amounts generally accumulating to approximately 1 to 2 times the normal as a result. It will be wettest in the west with rainfall slightly below average in the southeast.”
