Amber-marine-1200x675 Status Orange marine warning issued ahead of Storm Floris

Met Éireann has issued a series of marine and coastal warnings as Storm Floris approaches Ireland, bringing the threat of storm-force winds and hazardous sea conditions from Sunday night into Monday.

A Status Orange Storm Warning has been issued for the coastal waters stretching from Bloody Foreland to Malin Head to Fair Head, where westerly winds may reach storm force 10 at times. This warning is valid from 09:00 to 12:00 on Monday, August 4th. It signals a significant risk to marine traffic in the northwest, with dangerous conditions expected along exposed headlands and open waters.

In addition, several Status Yellow Gale and Small Craft Warnings remain in place for all Irish coastal waters and the Irish Sea:

  • A Small Craft Warning is in effect from 22:00 on Sunday to 15:00 on Monday, with southerly winds veering westerly reaching force 6 or higher.
  • A Gale Warning has been issued from Valentia to Rossan Point to Belfast Lough and on the Irish Sea north of Anglesey, valid from 01:00 to 19:00 on Monday, where southwesterly winds, veering westerly, are expected to reach gale force 8 or strong gale force 9.
  • A second Small Craft Warning comes into effect from 15:00 on Monday until 11:00 on Tuesday, with westerly winds continuing to reach force 6 or higher.

The warnings come as Storm Floris deepens over the Atlantic and tracks toward Ireland’s northwest coast. The storm is forecast to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and rough seas, particularly along Atlantic coasts and across northern counties.
