Ash Dieback Support Scheme Offers €10k+ Per Hectare

Minister of State for Forestry, Michael Healy-Rae, is calling on ash forest owners to apply for support under the Department’s enhanced Reconstitution Scheme for Ash Dieback, with payments of up to €10,555 per hectare now available—plus an additional €5,000 per hectare through the Climate Action Performance Payment (CAPP).
The scheme helps landowners clear dead ash trees and replant with new species. So far in 2024, €4.5 million has been paid in clearance and replanting grants, with a further €4 million issued in CAPP top-ups. Since 2013, over €23 million has been spent tackling ash dieback nationwide.
Healy-Rae highlighted the boosted grant rates under the new Forestry Programme 2023–27, including a doubled site clearance payment of €2,000/ha and replanting grants ranging from €3,858 to €8,555/ha, depending on forest type. Farmers on legacy premium rates are also eligible for a one-time top-up to bring them in line with new rates.
“Over a third of total ash dieback spending has happened since last September, and it’s working,” said Healy-Rae. “But many forest owners have yet to apply. I’m urging them to take action now—it’s the fastest, most effective way to restore your land and secure your payments.”
Applications for the CAPP payment must be made online by the forest owner, with payments made in three instalments. Full details are available on the Department’s website.
