A chronological record of weather events and extremes that occurred in Ireland on 1 May down through history.
1990: Valentia in Kerry reaches 23.7c, with all but three of Met Éireann‘s synoptic stations recording temperatures in excess of 20c.
1997: Temperatures edge close to 20c in most parts of Ireland as High Pressure builds from the continent, bringing fine and dry conditions.
2003: Met Éireann reports that the month of April was one of the warmest for the last 100 years. At Valentia Observatory and Malin Head, the temperatures recorded for the month were the highest since 1893.
2007: Temperatures reach the low 20s in the west and southwest.
2016: Met Éireann and the Irish Cancer Society team to include sunburn warnings in weather forecasts. When sunburn risk is high, warnings will be broadcast across television and radio and will be printed in newspapers.
2021: The overnight temperature drops to -2.5c at Mullingar, County Westmeath.
