1980: Heavy snow disrupts sports fixtures in Ulster. The Irish Cup semi-finals are postponed.

1983: Part of the tailfin of a North West Orient jet with more than 200 passengers on board is ripped off by lightning as the aircraft prepared to land. The plane landed safely.

1991: Thousands of acres in low-lying agricultural land in the western half of Ireland is underwater following days of heavy rainfall. The Shannon and River Suck catchment areas are worst affected.

2009: Extensive gorse and wild fires break out across County as a lengthy dry spell continues.

2013: A significant winter affects parts of Ireland, leading to heavy snowfall and disruptions, particularly in Ulster. records a wind gust of 113 km/h.
